Our water area near Zernin
eMission-X owns a 428 m² body of water and riparian area near Zernin in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The property includes a small watercourse in the Warnow area, the adjacent shoreline, and a small section of the Warnow River itself.
This makes Zernin one of our special rewilding sites: Here, we not only protect land but also own parts of a body of water and its immediate shoreline structure.
Water, Shoreline, and Natural Vegetation
The small watercourse is lined with grasses, shrubs, and riparian woodlands.
Water bodies and their banks together form a habitat where water, soil, and vegetation come into direct contact.
For our rewilding efforts, this means above all refraining from exploiting these existing structures for economic purposes and allowing them space for their further natural development.
No major interventions are currently planned for the area.
Rewilding Along the Water
Zernin showcases another aspect of our rewilding work.
While we are initially planting some trees and shrubs on former farmland in some areas and trying to retain more water in our Klein Breesen marsh, restraint is the key at Zernin.
The watercourse is intended to continue developing as naturally as possible, together with its banks.
There are no plans for commercial use of the waterway or the riparian area.
Protect the water. End exploitation. Let nature take its course.
Water bodies, too, can be permanently preserved
When purchasing natural areas, many people first think of forests, meadows, or wetlands.
Zernin demonstrates that even small sections of waterways and their banks can be part of rewilding.
By owning the land, we can ensure that this section is not designated for commercial use and that it remains a permanent space for natural processes.
Permanent Space for Nature
The 428 m² area remains the property of eMission-X and is permanently removed from commercial use.
Our goal is not to artificially maintain a specific state of the watercourse. Rather, we want to allow the watercourse, riparian vegetation, and adjacent structures to continue developing as independently as possible.
In this way, Zernin also adheres to our fundamental principle:
Protect land and water. End commercial use. Let nature take its course.
