Our site near Oberreidenbach

eMission-X owns another natural area near Oberreidenbach in Rhineland-Palatinate.

According to the information available to us, it consists of grassland with woody vegetation. There is no private access road to the property.

Unlike many of our other properties, we have not yet inspected this site in person.

Therefore, we do not wish to make any claims about its current condition beyond what we actually know.

Inspect first, then decide

Before we assess whether measures to kickstart the renaturation of the area are advisable or necessary, we’d like to get a firsthand look at the property.

In doing so, we will focus in particular on what vegetation is actually present and how the area is currently developing.

Only then will we decide whether any intervention is necessary at all.

After all, our guiding principle applies here as well:

Intervene only if there is a good reason to do so.

No Access Road—Not a Deal-Breaker for Rewilding

A distinctive feature of the property is the lack of its own access road.

For traditional agricultural or forestry use, an area that is difficult to access can be impractical.

For our rewilding approach, however, this is not a fundamental problem.

After all, our goal is precisely not to regularly access the area with machinery and manage it commercially.

The lack of an access road is therefore a good example of how properties that are less attractive for commercial use can still be of interest for nature conservation.

How is the area developing?

We’d like to find that out for ourselves.

After the initial site visit, we’ll document the condition of the area and decide whether initial restoration is necessary or whether we can leave further development entirely to natural processes.

We are not prescribing a specific future habitat.

Over time, natural succession can lead to the development of different vegetation structures from grassland. We’ll observe whether and how quickly this happens on our site near Oberreidenbach.

Rewilding also means not knowing everything in advance

In this respect, Oberreidenbach differs from many of our previously documented rewilding sites.

We are familiar with the property from the available documentation—but not yet from firsthand observation.

And that is precisely why we are documenting this interim status transparently.

Secure the site. Visit it in person. Monitor its development. Intervene only when necessary.

After our first site visit, we’ll update this project page with our own observations and photos.

Permanently creating more space for nature

Our goal for Oberreidenbach is clear: The area should be permanently removed from commercial use and left to develop naturally.

We do not wish to prejudge what specific developments will take place there.
