Our natural area along the Warnow River

The 6,500 m² site near Eickelberg is located directly on the Warnow River in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The property is already heavily overgrown with trees, shrubs, and other vegetation. Due to its location along the river and the dense vegetation, the area is difficult to access.

This is an advantage for our rewilding efforts: no major interventions are required on this site.

Preserving and allowing existing nature to develop

At Eickelberg, the goal is not to plant a new forest or to regularly maintain the existing vegetation.

Nature is already there.

That’s why we refrain from forestry operations and timber harvesting. Dead trees and deadwood can remain on the site and become part of the natural process.

The existing vegetation can change, become denser, and spread.

Rewilding right on the Warnow

Riverbanks and adjacent wooded areas form diverse habitats. The immediate proximity to the Warnow River is what makes the area near Eickelberg particularly interesting to us.

Our goal is to permanently reduce human pressure on the area and allow as much space as possible for natural development.

Unlike in areas where initial restoration efforts are necessary, the guiding principle in Eickelberg is therefore:

Do not manage the land. Do not reforest. Let nature take its course.

Permanently Preserved for Nature

The area will be permanently set aside for nature conservation purposes and removed from economic use.

This creates another area along the Warnow River where natural processes can unfold with as little disturbance as possible.
