Our Rewilding Site Along the Green Belt
eMission-X has acquired a 1,999 m² natural area near Grobau in the Vogtland district. Approximately 1,300 m² of the property is currently forested.
The site is located along the Green Belt, the former inner-German border strip. The former patrol path of the GDR border troops runs directly in front of the property.
This location thus uniquely connects German history with the natural evolution of a landscape.
From Border Zone to Forest
The property is part of the area of the former settlement of Stöckigt. The settlement was demolished in the 1960s as part of efforts to secure the inner-German border.
For decades, access to the area was restricted. During this time, a forest was able to develop through natural succession on parts of our current property.
Today, ash, birch, and sycamore maple trees, among others, grow there.
We would like to continue this development.
Natural Forest Development Instead of Forestry
There is no forestry activity on our land. Trees are not harvested for timber, and traditional forest management is not planned.
Reforestation is also unnecessary here: Nature has long since taken care of much of this work on its own.
The existing forest and the remaining areas of the property are therefore allowed to continue developing as independently as possible.
Do not manage. Do not reforest. Let nature take its course.
Rewilding along the Green Belt
The Green Belt emerged from the former inner-German border strip and today connects numerous habitats along the former border.
Our property near Grobau is also intended to remain a permanent part of this naturally shaped landscape.
The designation of the Green Belt in Saxony as a National Natural Monument is currently in the works.
