Our Rewilding Site on the Middle Rhine

eMission-X owns two contiguous parcels near Kamp-Bornhofen in the Middle Rhine Valley, totaling 859 m².

The areas are situated on the forested and rocky slopes above the Rhine. Due to the steep slopes, large parts of the land are difficult to access.

Old shrubs, young trees, and wild plants already characterize the property. Therefore, no major measures for initial renaturation are necessary.

Landscape with Multiple Protected Status

Our property is located within several protected areas:

  • “Rhine Region from Bingen to Koblenz” Landscape Conservation Area
  • “Middle Rhine Valley” Bird Sanctuary
  • FFH Site “Rhine Slopes between Lahnstein and Kaub”

The two parcels are also part of the “Rhine Slopes between Kestert and Kamp-Bornhofen” biotope complex.

By acquiring these properties, we are permanently preserving a small area within this unique landscape for nature.

Natural Development Instead of Agricultural Use

There is no agricultural or forestry use on our land. Logging is not planned.

Instead of maintaining a specific condition through regular management, we allow the existing vegetation to develop as independently as possible.

Especially in the hard-to-reach slope areas, rewilding therefore means above all:

Do not manage. Let nature take its course.

Even small areas create space for nature

At 859 m², Kamp-Bornhofen is one of our smaller rewilding sites.

For us, however, the size of a property isn’t the only deciding factor. Even smaller areas can be permanently removed from economic use and left to develop naturally.

Many such plots can help create more space for natural processes in Germany once again.

Permanently preserved for nature

The two parcels of land are permanently secured for nature conservation and will not be used for commercial purposes.

In this way, Kamp-Bornhofen follows our fundamental rewilding principle:

Buy land. End use. Let nature take its course.
