Our Rewilding Site near Lützlow
eMission-X owns a 1,370 m² natural area near Lützlow in the Uckermark region.
The property is special for two reasons: The area is designated as a protected biotope and is also located within the boundaries of an archaeological site.
Thus, natural and cultural history converge directly at this site.
Over 5,000 years of human history
Our rewilding site is located within the boundaries of registered archaeological site 140817, “Prehistoric Settlement.”
According to information on the archaeological site, evidence of human settlement here dates back more than 5,000 years.
Thus, the property connects two very different time periods: Beneath the ground, traces of human activity dating back millennia have been preserved, while on the surface, nature is now once again allowed to develop as independently as possible.
For us, this special status naturally also means that we avoid disturbing the soil and adhere to the requirements of historic preservation.
Protected Biotope and Natural Development
In addition to its cultural and historical significance, the property is also of interest from a nature conservation perspective.
Parts of the area are designated as a protected biotope. eMission-X has no plans to use the land for agricultural or forestry purposes.
Nor are any major measures for accelerated renaturation currently necessary.
Instead, the existing vegetation is to be allowed to develop as independently as possible.
Where Cultural History Meets Rewilding
This sets Lützlow apart from many of our other rewilding sites.
The goal here is not to plant trees or recreate a specific habitat. The existing natural environment is to be preserved and allowed to evolve without economic exploitation.
At the same time, the site’s history, preserved in the soil, remains untouched.
Thus, on just 1,370 m², two different forms of preservation lie directly on top of one another: a protected natural area on the surface and archaeological traces of more than 5,000 years of human history in the soil.
Permanent Space for Nature
The land remains the property of eMission-X and is permanently removed from economic use.
We refrain from agricultural and forestry use as well as timber harvesting and largely leave the property to its natural development.
In this way, Lützlow also follows our rewilding principle:
Buy land. End use. Let nature take its course.
